Children return back to school at Cambry, Les Cayes, Haiti

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Greetings!
It is with great pleasure that ESMI is presenting to you this great event this year: Back To School 2012.

The challenges were many, but the Lord has once again demonstrated His Faithfulness to His Promises. We started anyway. We have others who still stand before us. We need your help to bring them down, like the people of Israel before the walls of Jericho.

We would like to express our gratitude towards you for your faithful support in the past. You never stop believing in our call and vision. Without you it would be impossible for us to give life and sustain the lives of these children. Let us keep doing great things together for God while hoping for great things from Him too. These children need to become someone tomorrow. IN GOD WE TRUST.

May our God continue to use you to do amazing things in His Kingdom.

Best regards in Christ,
Pastor Louis St. Germain
ESMI Haiti Field Director

Bonswa…Bondye beni ou (Good morning…Lord bless you),

Wednesday started off with a typical Haitian change of plans. We have a school bus that we use to transport the teams to the various sites while they are here in the Les Cayes area. On our way to Cherette a couple of the lug bolts broke off of one of the tires and (more…)

Bonswa…Kòman ou ye? (Good afternoon/evening…how are you?)…

Sorry for missing the last couple of days for updates. We have a large group here at the Cambry guesthouse and the Internet access been fairly limited. The first half of my trip has been very productive. (more…)

Bonswa…Kòman ou ye? (Good afternoon/evening…how are you?)

I made it into Port-au-Prince yesterday without a hitch, but after that things got fairly interesting. The team from Shreveport, LA got in about 30 minutes after I did. We loaded up the van and started heading to Les Cayes…normally about a 4 hour drive. (more…)

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners…

Well…another month has already zipped by. I don’t know about you and where you are living, but this winter has been quite a different one for us here in Ohio. Even today I am sending out this email with a clear and sunshiny day outside with the temperature hitting the low 60’s. We still keep asking, “When is winter really going to hit us?”

January has once again proven to be a busy month with ESMI. As in the past, as the holidays slip into our past we start hitting the road running. I hope and pray that you enjoy hearing about some of our activities from the Projects and Development perspective and that you will continue to keep us in your prayers. (more…)

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners…
Greetings again from the Short household. I hope and pray that this update finds you doing well and enjoying this festive time of year. This update is going to focus on the activities that I have had the privilege of working on this past year. The items listed below have taken place since January 2011 and fell under my responsibility as the Projects and Development Director with ESMI. Hopefully this will give you an understanding of how valuable your thoughts, prayers, and financial support has been to the people we work with in Haiti, Laura, and me. (more…)

Dear Partners in Ministry:

I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him in Haiti. We’ve been here ten months now and it hasn’t been an easy adjustment. There are many challenges that we have faced and continue to face almost daily: challenges with the children’s health; car incidents and accidents; limited electricity and plumbing at times; the heat (it still feels like summer in Jeremie); different pace of life– a bank errand that should take 30 minutes ends up taking four hours when the van radiator overheats and so I never know when I leave my home what time I’ll return because, here in Haiti, life is definitely unpredictable; and the list goes on. Haiti: Another Perspective

Sometimes it is helpful to get another person’s perspective on a place like Haiti. What you often hear from me are the reports of our projects and the issues that we are often confronted with. Recently I was forwarded this account from Melissa Hedden Roper. Melissa just spent a week at our Cassamajor facility in the Les Cayes area. Here is her story (used with her permission. Haiti Storm Update: October 2011

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners…

Please find below an update regarding the tropical storm that I reported in my last email. Please continue to keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers.

“After the rain comes the good weather.” After the heavy rains that have swept the whole country, calm returned on afternoon of Wednesday, October 12th. The five days of rain has caused much turmoil in the Les Cayes area of Haiti. The Southern Department was the most affected. The damage amounted to millions of dollars and the loss of four lives was recorded. (more…)
