Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I praise the Lord for the opportunity to briefly update you on how God is moving in southern Haiti.
The Story of Jude Continues: From Evangelism to Economical Development
Some of you may remember the story of Jude, a gang leader in La Savanne who came to know the Lord during the medical ministry of our Chicago partners. We praise the Lord that ESMI was able to start a small loan business in La Savanne and Jude is the first recipient of this loan. Before Jude became a notorious gang leader, he was a fisherman. This loan will enable him to build a small fishing boat equipped with nets and the necessary fishing tools. Jude has promised to repay this loan within 24 months. Continue to keep him and his new business in your prayers.
Jude’s story in some way encompasses all four E’s of ESMI: the empathy of the missionary team to be in La Savanne at the appointed time that led to his evangelization, the spiritual education of Jude under Pastor Mongerard, and now the economical development project that will empower him to care for himself, his family and his community in a God-given directive. From evangelism to economical development…this is what the Gospel does in people’s lives, giving them a hope and a purpose that will bless others and not harm them. This is Jude’s new life and we thank you for making this possible as you partner with us in ministry.
A Bakery for La Hatte Ministry Site
La Hatte is a remote village in southern Haiti of about 1800 people. A few weeks ago, a PCA church from North Carolina built the very first bakery there. The church’s pastor, Rev. Pierre Clotaire could not hide his joy when he said: “Finally, we have it (the bakery) and we have the future too in the Name of our Lord Jesus.” Yes, with this bakery, the church leaders will have more resources to spread the Gospel. They plan first to use the resources to help the widows of the church and to provide jobs for at least 28 people from the community. Pray for the new ministry opportunities for this community because of the bakery.
Newly Appointed Cabinet Member for the Haiti State Department
My family and I have served in the city of Les Cayes for over 16 years. We praise the Lord that because of the faithful ministry done in that community, the Haitian government appointed me as a member of the cabinet. I prayerfully and humbly accepted their invitation to serve voluntarily, and saw it as an opportunity from the Lord to help bring about the change and the spiritual deliverance of our nation. My father prayed fervently for me that I would be like a Daniel in this position and I count on you to pray for me in the same manner.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and financial support of this ministry as we seek to transform Haiti with the Gospel. Visit our website: www.esmihaiti.org to see more of what God is doing and how you can be a part of this ministry.
With His love,
Louis and Martina
