It’s hard to believe that it is already one week since Matthew wreaked havoc on the southwest side of Haiti. It’s seems longer. Maybe because we have spent time together praying before the hurricane struck, then there was the waiting together, and now we are giving of our time and resources together. We have a lot to be thankful for to the Lord and at the same time a lot we have to trust Him for in the relief effort.
As I write this update at 11:15 pm, Mary Phil is still up working with teams wanting to head to Haiti. We are thankful for her efforts and to see how God is putting this together.
The first team of 6 college students, from Christ Fellowship Church in Miami, plan to arrive in Jeremie, Lord’s willing, on Friday, October 14. They are open to serve any where and so we hope to utilize that energy and zeal in one of the most difficult task…cleaning up and preparing the Lundi Children’s Village. The goal is to have at least 5 temporary homes ready by next week.
Then a medical team of 19 will head to Les Cayes this Saturday, October 15 with Give Hope Global. This team had originally planned to be there and still wanted to come to be an encouragement and help to the children and community they love so dearly. They too will plan on cleaning up a couple of the Children Villages so the children can return to the place they know as home.
A small team of 5 with GO Ministries will drive from the Dominican Republic this Saturday and will carry the much needed cholera medicine, IV fluid, etc. for all ESMI’s 700+ children and their caregivers in Les Cayes and Jeremie. Very thankful for these as we try to get ahead of cholera spreading in the Children Villages.
Three more medical teams and two construction teams are also planned for October from Florence Baptist Church and Spanish River Church. Please contact Mary Phil at email@example.com if you would like to serve on a team. Here’s an article on how her church is preparing their medical team: http://www.robertsoncountyconnection.com/robertson-county-offers-relief-to-haiti-cms-2897
Please be in prayer for these teams as they travel from the US and from the Dominican Republic in the next coming days and for safety as they serve. The relief effort is going to be a very long one. Pray with us for God’s provision. To donate to the hurricane relief/reconstruction: DONATE NOW https://www.esmihome.org/donate/sponsor-a-project/disaster-relief/
No new photos tonight as internet service in Jeremie is still limited.
A blessed night to all!
